The solstice has been and gone and true to form, so has the British summer! Hopefully it will return but the solstice itself was a grey and chilly evening with the sun hidden beneath a blanket of grey, not that we witches would let such a minor detail deter us from meeting in the woods and making merry!

The solstices are always a good time to take stock. While at winter we may muse over the successes and failures of the year, the summer solstice is a time for taking a look at our progress through the year so far, but it’s also a good time to look at the plans we made at the beginning of the year and adapt them to suit our needs and purposes going forward. It is a time for really looking at yourself, at your progress, plans and failures, for letting the sun illuminate the truth of your journey so far. As frightening as such self reflection can be, it’s not always easy to congratulate ourselves on how far we’ve come and harder still to consider our failures, such examination is so extremely important if we want to achieve all we hoped for. And just a quick note about failures: I used to kick box and box competitively, that is, in the ring. My coach always used to tell us fighters that losing a fight, as shit as that may feel, isn’t really losing if we can learn from our mistakes and come back stronger and better. So if in your musings, you find you aren’t quite where you wish to be, now’s the time to make adjustments. Revel in your glories and work on the rest!

Midsummer is also a good time to delve into your magickal workings. I loved Shakespeare at school, my favourite play being, of course, A Midsummer’s Night Dream. It feels to me as though Shakespeare gathered up the very essence of summer magick and poured it into his work. There’s a quality to those midsummer nights that isn’t felt at other times during the year, and while most people speak of the summer sun, it is the nights that hold mystery and magick.

And so, in the vein of throwing oneself into ones own magickal work, here’s just a few things that will be coming up soon:

July Journey – This month’s journey is one of connecting to the Earth. The journey lasts for around half an hour all in all and costs £3.

Plant Medicine Workshop – The ever popular plant medicine workshop is back, this time in conjunction with Unity Healing. The cost is £5 and the workshop is expected to last for around 1.5 – 2 hours. Date is yet to be confirmed but I’ll let you guys know!

Tarot Beginners Workshop – This is due to run over the course of 3 weeks. Each week will include access to the live classes via Zoom as well as work to do in your own time, all geared towards giving folks a sound base to delve deeper into the tarot. The 1st week’s focus will be the major arcana, the 2nd week, the minor arcana and the 3rd week will involve spreads and reading for others as well as everyday tarot exercises. Again dates are to be confirmed but are expected to be within the summer.

And witches, that’s it from me for now. Hope you all had a blessed solstice!
